Attention Paddle Players:

It’s time to dust off those paddle racquets and prepare for the 2017/18 Tokeneke paddle season! The paddle committee and team captains have been busy organizing this year's programs as outlined below. The courts will be open as of Sunday, October 1st, please do NOT use or visit the courts before this date, as they will NOT be ready for play.


EVENTS

The Ninth Annual David Gogolak Memorial Mixed Paddle Tournament and Dinner Party will take place in January 2018, date to be determined and details to follow. 
The Sixth Annual Callaway Cup Paddle Tournament will be held on October 21st 2017, date to be determined. Our friends at Wee Burn along with other local Clubs are again sponsoring the tournament; for details and sign-up e-mail:

LADIES’ PROGRAM

Tokeneke fields one ladies’ team that participates in two leagues. Beside the Darien/New Canaan League, Tokeneke plays in the Fairfield County Women's Platform Tennis League.  The Fall Session will begin on October 10th and go through December 21st.  The Winter Session will run January through February (no practice on January 1st).  There will be 8 lines each week (4 matches at home and 4 matches away).

All division matches will be played on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, team practices are in two sessions on Mondays from 8:30-10:00 or 10:00-11:30. 
Supplemental clinics are available on the following days:
Monday: 11:30-12:30pm
Tuesday: 11:30-1:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00-10:30am
Friday: 9-10:30/10:30-12pm

We are happy to welcome back Faycal and his certified group of paddle pros for our ladies program. There will be pre-season paddle boot camp session on Monday and Tuesday Oct 2 – Oct 3. Please contact Faycal or Florena for further details and sign up.

If you aren’t ready for team play yet but would like to learn the game of paddle, or if you would like to schedule a lesson/clinic, we encourage you to contact Faycal by e-mail faycal@tokenekeclub.org

MEN'S PROGRAM

The men will have 4 teams this season.  The A-Team, co-captained by Jay Bennett jay@greenwich.com & Guy Riegel riegels123@yahoo.com and the B-Team, captained by Tom Witschi tphwitschi@aol.com play on Saturday mornings.  The C-Team, captained by Scott Fritts hscottfritts@yahoo.com and the D team captained by Jack DeVita jldevita@hotmail.com play on Sunday mornings. These four teams span a broad range of ability, so anyone interested is encouraged to participate. Please e-mail one of the captains to express your interest.

Apart from league play, we will offer men’s instructional clinics on Tuesday&Thursday evenings, and also an in house league from 6:30-8 and 8 to closing. For more information, please read the paddle pamphlet.

JUNIOR PLAY


For the 2017/18 paddle season, Faycal Rhazali,Florena Enica and Gafur Sirojiddinov our Certified Paddle Coaches are encouraging all the juniors to join the Tokeneke Jr. Paddle Program for a fun season.
After another record breaking jr. paddle season of having our children experience the fun of paddle, we are thrilled to have Kathy Cramer (
Kathy.Cramer@sbcglobal.net) return as chair of children’s paddle at Tokeneke.


The weekly sessions are scheduled as follows:
Session 1: 7 weeks (October 23 - December 14, no clinics on Oct. 31 and Thanksgiving week)
Session 2: 6 weeks (January 8 - February 16, no clinics February 19-February 23)
Make ups for any weather related cancellations: February 26-March 2

Other Junior Interclub Events (hosted by Woodway):
November 12th (Sunday), 3pm-5 - Barbecue with hamburgers and hotdogs and chips @ $30/child (all ages welcome)
January 5th (Friday), 5:30pm-7 - Pizza Party @ $25/child (all ages welcome)


Any children interested in playing paddle tennis this season, please plan join us for a Fall Monster Mash Opening Paddle Pizza Party on Friday, October 20th from 5:00-6:30PM. Opening Paddle Pizza Party, $25 per child; RSVP to faycal@tokenekeclub.org as space is limited.


WARMING HUT AND PARKING!

Our continuing partnership with Ox Ridge allows us the new parking lot immediately adjacent to the courts and use of their bar/TV area as our warming hut for match days (Tuesdays, Saturdays & Sundays – (9:00am until 1:00pm) – and maybe more opportunities (call for details/options)! Reminder - parking inside the gates is reserved for Ox Ridge members. Please alert any guests/other teams as to where to park.

NOTES
  • Please click on -  paddle rules
  • We will again use the web-based court reservation system. Please go to our website, www.tokenekeclub.org and follow the easy instructions. This enables you to reserve a time slot up to 2 weeks in advance of play. The Tokeneke and Ox Ridge offices do not accept reservations. Team play and event times will be listed and unavailable for reservations.
  • Please note the Ox Ridge horse show dates below. If the “Courts Closed” sign is up, please do not use the courts. We must respect our growing partnership with Ox Ridge.
  • As in the past there is no guest fee for paddle.
  • Private paddle parties may be arranged in coordination with TJ Diagne and Flo Enica.
  • Any maintenance questions/comments/requests should be made to the Tokeneke office (655-1481). Please do not call Ox Ridge. They are not responsible for the courts.
  • As always, the Paddle Committee will use e-mails and the bulletin board located at the courts to post notices.
